Frequently Asked Questions
-
A Clarity Call is a free 20-minute virtual consultation designed to help you get a sense of what therapy with me could look like. It’s a space to talk about what’s been feeling challenging, explore what you’re hoping for, and ask any questions about my approach.
You’ll walk away with more clarity on your current patterns, potential next steps, and whether we’d be a good fit to work together — no pressure, just an open conversation.

Sama Counselling currently serves clients located in Ontario for psychotherapy services, and clients located in the following provinces and territories for virtual counselling services: Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.
All sessions are held virtually through our secure JaneApp platform, allowing clients to access services from anywhere in Canada where services are permitted.
-
All sessions are booked securely through our client portal on Jane App. Once booked, you’ll receive confirmation and any necessary pre-session information.

The terms psychotherapy and counselling reflect different regulatory and licensing frameworks across Canada, rather than differences in the quality or depth of care. The type of service offered is determined by the client’s physical location and applicable regulations.
Regardless of the title used, clients receive the same individualized, evidence-based therapeutic support. Hazel’s approach, training, and commitment to ethical care remain consistent across all services.
-
Yes! A limited number of sliding scale spots are offered to support accessibility. These are currently at capacity, with a waitlist available. Please feel free to reach out confidentially to discuss eligibility.
-
Sama Counselling does not currently offer direct billing to insurance providers. However, many clients are able to submit receipts to their insurance company for partial or full reimbursement, depending on their individual plan.
Receipts will reflect the credential under which services are provided, based on the client’s location:
Ontario clients will receive receipts for psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) under supervision. Where required by insurers, supervisor information may be included.
Clients located outside Ontario will receive receipts for counselling services provided under the Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) designation.
Coverage varies widely between insurance providers and plans. We strongly recommend confirming in advance whether your plan covers services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) or a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC).

Sessions are focused, structured, and tailored to your goals. Your first session will include a review of informed consent, confidentiality and privacy, completion of your intake form, and any questions you might have. During sessions, you may explore challenges, discuss strategies, and occasionally receive exercises or reflections to practice between sessions. Therapy is collaborative—your input is essential.
-
Session frequency varies depending on your goals and progress. Regular attendance helps achieve the best outcomes. If you arrive late, the session will still end at the scheduled time, but we allow a 20-minute grace period. During this time, I will send a reminder email to confirm your attendance. If you do not arrive within 20 minutes, the session may be considered a no-show and billed in full.
-
Payment is due at the end of each session and will be processed via credit card through the Jane App. Sliding scale options are available and must be discussed and agreed upon before the first session. Receipts can be provided for insurance reimbursement.
-

Confidentiality also applies to the secure online platform we use, the Jane App.
-
Before your first session, please complete your intake form and note any questions or topics you want to discuss. This helps ensure the session is tailored to your needs and allows us to address administrative details such as informed consent and privacy policies efficiently.
